Su \u00faltimo vuelo operado por Lufthansa LH8161 inicio el s\u00e1bado 16 de octubre, desde el Aeropuerto Internacional John F. Kennedy (KJFK) de Nueva York a las 23:12 hora local, arribando a Frankfurt (EDDF) a las 12:03 hora local del domingo 17.\u00a0 Este vuelo estuvo operado por la aeronave D-ALCC, la cual ten\u00eda un sticker que dec\u00eda \u00abGracias MD-11, Adi\u00f3s\u00bb Ahora bien, el retiro del D-ALCC no significa el final de esta aeronave, ya que fue adquirido Western Global Airlines, aerol\u00ednea carguera norteamericana.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lufthansa Cargo recibi\u00f3 su primer MD-11 en junio de 1998, operando 19 cargueros en el transcurso de 23 a\u00f1os, reemplazando al Boeing 747-200F. Fue la columna vertebral de sus operaciones de carga hasta finales de la d\u00e9cada de 2000 y principios de la de 2010.\u00a0 Estos MD-11 estaban basados en Frankfurt, Alemania, desde donde transportaban sus cargamentos a todas partes del mundo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En 2011, Lufthansa Cargo encarg\u00f3 cinco Boeing 777 Freigter como parte de una iniciativa para cambiar a un fuselaje ancho de dos motores m\u00e1s eficiente y m\u00e1s nuevo. Como resultado, el MD-11 Freigter fue retirado gradualmente de la flota, programando su retiro para diciembre de 2020. Debido a la pandemia de Covid-19, el aumento de la demanda de carga provoc\u00f3 el retraso de su retiro hasta octubre de 2021. Incluso el retiro de D -ALCC se pospuso del 15 al 17 de octubre ya que el avi\u00f3n estaba programado en dos viajes adicionales desde Frankfurt a Nueva York.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lufthansa Cargo retir\u00f3 sus \u00faltimos tres cargueros McDonnell Douglas MD-11 cada uno en 2020 y 2021, facilitado por la entrada de cuatro cargueros Boeing 777 a la flota de la aerol\u00ednea. Solo en septiembre de 2021, la aerol\u00ednea recibi\u00f3 dos cargueros Boeing 777, un antiguo carguero Emirates SkyCargo y un nuevo Boeing 777 directamente de la planta de Boeing en Everett Seattle.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despu\u00e9s del retiro de los McDonnell Douglas MD-11 de Lufthansa Cargo, solo quedar\u00e1n tres operadores que los utilizar\u00e1n: FedEx, UPS y Western Global. Actualmente, FedEx opera la mayor\u00eda de los cargueros MD-11 con 59 aeronaves, seguido de UPS con 42.
